A new critical point of view of design around industrial products and their functionality

Starting from an anonymous common chair, the essential parts that constitute its function, are extracted: the backrest and the seat. The result is a “Partial Chair”. The chair becomes partially unusable representing therefore a dysfunction. The two extracted parts are contextualized in another space obtaining consequentially one more object that contains the essence of its function, but which is, at the same time, partially unusable, and so partially useless. “Dysfunction Chair”. The design system keeps producing objects the world is already full of, therefore superfluous. With “UseLess is More” JoeVelluto (JVLT) designs works that contain the heart of the industrial object (functionality), but deliberately declare their partial uselessness. The object is presented through its contradiction generating a different though. The Contr-Ad(d)i(c)tion, present in every work, is something that removes while adding, generating the new expression “UseLess is More”.

Un nuovo punto di vista critico del design riguardo i prodotti industriali e la loro funzionalità

Partendo da un’anonima seduta d’uso comune estrapoliamo le parti essenziali che ne rappresentano la funzione: lo schienale ed il sedile. Otteniamo una “Sedia Parziale”. La sedia diventa parzialmente inutilizzabile e rappresenta quindi una disfunzione. Le due parti estrapolate vengono contestualizzate all’interno in uno spazio ottenendo a sua volta un oggetto che contiene il cuore della funzione ma che è parzialmente inutilizzabile, quindi parzialmente inutile. “Sedia Disfunzione”. Il sistema Design continua produrre oggetti di cui il mondo è già saturo, quindi superflui. Attraverso “UseLess il More” JoeVelluto (JVLT) progetta delle opere che contengono il cuore dell’oggetto industriale (funzionalità), ma dichiarano volutamente la loro parziale inutilità. L’oggetto viene presentato nella sua contraddizione al fine di generare un diverso pensiero. La Contr-Addizione, presente in tutte le opere, è qualcosa che nello stesso momento sottrae aggiungendo, originando una nuova espressione. “UseLess is More” appunto.
